Where Is Hungary
This is probably the first question most people will ask when they hear about the possibility of moving to Hungary. I asked this very same thing. My thoughts were that it was part of the eastern block. How wrong could you be? I was told by a Hungarian friend a fact that probably put it in to its true prospective.
The Danube, one of the most beautiful and romantic rivers in the world flows right through the heart of Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Within the river is an Island called Margit. This is the geographical centre of Europe. I was amazed to learn this and in my mind put a completely new prospective on the place.
Hungary is the furthest east of all the European Union countries. Which it was admitted to in May 2004. It has no coast line and is bordered by seven other countries. They are in clockwise order, Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Yugoslavia, Croatia and Slovenia. Another strange phenomenon about this is that it was also said to me that Hungary is the only country in the world that is bordered by its self. The reasoning behind this is that after world war one the country was downsized. All the area's that now form its borders were once part of it.
This country is 93,030 square Km. with a population of 10,043,000 people. This gives a density of population of 108 people per square km. Their language is not spoken anywhere else, their folk songs do not resemble those of anyone else. Yet the Hungarian people have been living in the centre of Europe for more than 1,100 years. Despite a history of varying fortunes which devastated both its people and its cultural assets and treasures. Hungary remains a valuable cultural and environmental heritage, which people come from all parts of the world to enjoy.
You can now enjoy easy access to Budapest airport from the following places. Heathrow, Luton, Stanstead, Gatwick, Bristol, Newcastle, Manchester Manston, Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Larnaca. Further links to Balaton International are now available from Stanstead. During 2007 a further airport at Veszprem is due to open and many low cost carriers are expected to fly there.
